Recently I visited Tracey over at Quiet Paws and saw that she had joined the Four Simple Goals project started by A Beautiful Mess. The idea behind the project is to think up four simple (easily achievable) goals that will make your life richer and happier before 2011. Who doesn't want that? So here are mine.
1. Bring music back into my life. I'm embarrassed to say that I've had an iPod since Christmas and have never really used it. I did set it up when I first got it but then I sort of forgot about it. A few months ago the radio in my car broke and I haven't replaced that either. Going back to dance classes recently reminded me how much I've been missing music in my life.
2. Buy some beautiful new bed linen. Tom and I have trouble agreeing on colours and patterns and as a result we pretty much do nothing and struggle on with whatever boring stuff we already have. Well no more I say! Beautiful soft linen here I come.
3. Get more sleep (in the bed with beautiful bed linen). The older I get the more I realise that if I don't get enough sleep over the space of a few weeks I get a bit (a lot!) ratty. With Daylight Savings just around the corner I know that Henry will be getting me up at 6am rather than 7am so this going to bed at midnight for no apparent reaon needs to stop. I'm going to aim for 10.30pm with some reading time on top.
4. Resurrect the vegie garden. I have tried, really I have but I just can't seem to keep the up the momentum. Yesterday I read that the best way to plan your garden was to make a list of things you like to eat rather than a list of plants and the lightbulb went on! So this Spring I'm going to plant tomatoes, strawberries and salad greens. I'm also going to add to my herb garden and buy a lemon tree.
Doesn't sound too hard does it? And I think I'll be happier and springy-er if I can get them all ticked off. Perhaps you'd like to play along too? More details are available at Elsie's blog here and I'll keep you posted on my progress as I reach each goal.
I think these are great goals Caz.
ReplyDeleteI just love the feel of new bed linen......I wonder how you'll solve the colour and pattern dilemma?
And the vegetable patch gives you so much more than vegetables. We really need a green house to ripen up the vegetables because we've planted so many trees that the garden is much shadier than it used to be. But I find the little cherry tomato plants are great and don't need any looking after, just the odd watering. I know it's not quite the same as growing big beautiful beef tomatoes but still rewarding. It just calms your soul to harvest your own little garden however small.
I love this idea and if you're agreeable, might just pinch your four. Sounds perfect to me.
ReplyDelete1). You're taking dance classes? Cool! Not something I'd ever be brave enough to try. ;-)
ReplyDeleteFor my part, I'm determined to dust off the piano, which gets played once a year at the moment, if it's lucky... :-(
2). Good luck with the new linen! Nothing quite like seeing a cheerful new look in your room. :-)
For the colder months, I can highly recommend flanelette sheets....mmmm, cosy.
Ooh, and a woollen underlay. We got one recently, makes *such* a difference!
3). A good aim- I usually try to be in bed before 10:30, so I can try to read for half an hour or so before zzzz....
4).- Join the Yates Vegie Growing Challenge! :-)
http://www.yates.com.au/vegie-challenge/spring-vegie-challenge (I've tried, but my posts don't seem to load, it's a little disheartening...but I'm sure yours would work!)
PS- I read that article too! Now where was it...a magazine? Paper? I'll be wondering about it now...
PS- I always see the first reply to your post all smooshed up under the 'you might also like' recommendation...does anyone else get this strange overlapping? :-/
ReplyDeleteMusic, linen, sleep and home grown vegies. Sounds like a very nice life indeed!
ReplyDeleteDeb, you make growing vegetables look and sound so appealing on your own blog that I just have to give it another go. I did have some luck with tomatoes last year so I think I'll start there.
ReplyDeleteKatie, you can absolutely steal my four goals then we can compare notes!
Yes, Manu I have noticed that weird overlap too but I'm not sure how to correct it - will look into it. Thanks for the tip about the Yates Vegie Growing Challenge too. Good luck with your four goals - they sound very do-able!
...and last but by no means least thanks for dropping by Estelle and making me feel that I've chosen the right four goals for 'a very nice life'..ahhh
Manuela, I forgot to say that the article I referred to was in the Epicure section of The Age on Tuesday. Oh how I would love to have an orchard like yours but given my space constraints I think I'll just have to experiment with some of the dwarf/miniature trees and see how I go!
ReplyDeleteAh yes, that was it. I was delivering the papers that morning, and stopped to read the foodie pages. :-)
ReplyDeleteHeh- an orchard like mine? I wish mine were smaller! Too much fruit, too much work...I would gladly swap it for a new orchard of smaller espaliered trees, so I can actually reach half of the fruit.... ;-)
YAY for you joining the '4 simple goals' movement ... how lovely of you to include a nice nod to me blog (thanks!).
ReplyDeleteYour goals are wonderful - I could very easily add these into my goal list as well, especially that one about nice bed linen. I've been meaning to invest in some quality linen for AGES, and just never seem to get around to deciding on colour, price, thread count etc. I've decided to keep things simple and just go with lovely crisp white sheets ... I figure it's one colour that just 'goes' with everything! :)
Best of luck with your goals ... I can't wait to hear about your progress! :)
I'm with you Tracey - white's the way to go. I think that's the way I'm going to break the deadlock with my partner!
